It's not a news flash that for long the Music industry has been a white-male dominated playing field, arguably reflective or as a result of wider society's patriarchal structure which has for long undermined, dismissed and attempted to limit the power of women.

The Music Industry is dominated by guys. I work with men 98% of the time - producers, arrangers, musicinas, engineers

In 2016 it's all changing, the industry is undergoing a real paradigm shift and of course that doesn't exclude the power dynamics. Women are truly cementing and claiming their positions as power-players and influencers in music, whether the old boys club approves or not, Women are at the forefront of the changing landscapes within the Industry.

Earlier in the year Billboard compiled a list of top women executives in the game titled 'Women in Music 2016: Top 100 Executives' which was a testament to the fact that women are not only the stars, inspirational figures and songwriters, they are also the decision makers at the top of their game, shaping the future of Music.

On Friday 9th of December, Billboard hosted the Women in Music Gala 2016 honouring the most prominent women in music. Honorees included the likes of Bozoma Saint John - Head of Global Consumer Marketing at Apple Music/ituens - who was crowned 'Executive of the year'.
